Hannah Persaud, Road Trip

Road Trip

(For my sister)

How long since we laughed about your hiccups

And ran our fingers through the rain?

Since we watched sheets
Ride the wind like phantoms

and smiled between the lines of poetry, our cheeks hurting

Whisky growing warm

We are unspinning around the moon
And tides reverse
As decades crumble

Children for a day.

Hannah Persaud’s debut novel is being published by Muswell Press and in audio by Bolinda in February 2020. She is working on her second novel, along with a collection of short stories. Hannah is represented by Laura Macdougall at United Agents.
