Jose D. Trejo-Maya was born in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico, where he spent his childhood in the small neighboring pueblo of Tarmoró, from which he emigrated in 1988. Jose has been published in various literary journals in the UK, the US, Spain, Australia, and Argentina. 

While in ceremony with Chololo medicine men in the Tule River Reservation, he dreamt the prophecy above. The poem is an ekphrastic poem based on a longer work, Desert Sands.
